Ambassador Amaya Bauldwin wins Black Excellence Award Scholarship

Amaya Bauldwin, a Youth Forward MKE ambassador since 2022, recently received the Black Excellence Award’s Louvenia Johnson Scholarship. Amaya is one of 12 recipients of the scholarship, which is awarded to gifted, talented, and service-minded African American high school seniors going to college or trade schools.

WISN 12 profiled each of the recipients as part of their Black History Month celebrations. In her video, Amaya shared her plans of pursuing a degree in political science with a minor in Spanish in hopes of ultimately entering the career field as an urban planner or public policymaker.

“This scholarship will help me pay for college, but it will also help me learn more about myself and what school I want to go to,” she said.

When asked what her advice for younger students is, she advised, “Stay on top of [your] work, don’t procrastinate, and set long- and short-term goals throughout the year.”

Savion Jarvis, who’s been an active participant and presenter at our partnership’s meetings, as well as participating in a Greater Milwaukee Foundation “Milwaukee For All” roundtable event, was another recipient of the award. Savion serves as a Social Justice Ambassador for one of Youth Forward MKE’s partner organizations, MENTOR Greater Milwaukee.

Savion’s advice for fellow students is simple: “Love what you do and success will come.”

A ceremony was held on Friday, February 24, to honor the students, along with 30 extraordinary African American leaders from across Milwaukee.
